brings to its business a rich intellectual capital derived from nine decades of
The Company currently operating 95.2 MW of wind assets in the States of Rajasthan,
Gujarat and Karnataka and also has developed solar power plant with West Bengal
Green Energy Development Corporation Ltd., in Asansol, West Bengal. In the conventional
sector, the Company is setting up a 450 MW Thermal Power Plant in Haldia, West Bengal,
through its associate company and also has conceived thermal power projects in Bihar,
Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. With the development of the power plants, IPCL intends
to scale its power generation portfolio up to 10,000 MW in the years to come.
The Company has a total license area of 618 sq km in Asonsol-Ranigunj Belt, which
is regarded as one of the premium industrial belts of West Bengal. A number of industries
are coming up in the industrial areas of Jamuria, Ikra, Dhasaldanga and Mangalpur,
which is helping the Company to expand its distribution business.
The Company has been serving the area since last 9 decades providing critical survival
power to the underground collieries of Eastern Coalfields Ltd., Hospitals, Government
Utilities and industrial and commercial consumers. The distribution business also
has backward integration by way of operating power plant of 12 MW capacity and a
540 MW thermal project under development in Raghunathpur, West Bengal. The Company
has aimed at optimizing its distribution assets and creates benchmark in efficiency
by way of outperforming the industry number. As such, the T&D loss figures are
at a commendable below 2.70% against the industry benchmark of 20% or more.
The Company is also the distribution franchise of Gaya and the adjoining areas.
The Company has established India Power Corporation (Bodhgaya) Limited (the DF company)
as a wholly-owned subsidiary for undertaking the operations of the Gaya distribution
franchise. India Power Corporation (Bodhgaya) Limited has entered into a distribution
franchisee agreement with the South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL),
the distribution licensee. The franchise is for a period of 15 years. The DF company
will procure power from SBPDCL and sell it to consumers in the franchise area. It
is has taken over the operations from June 1, 2014.
